As we slow down for Christmas, I'm reflecting on what it represents that God appeared not as a mighty king or cosmic force, but as a baby - vulnerable, dependent, and fully human.
In Jesus, we see a God who experienced life just as we do - who got cricks in his neck from sleeping awkwardly, who sneezed, who felt cranky when hungry (very relatable). He lived the full range of human emotions, even the fear of death. By becoming incarnate as a person, Jesus validates the entirety of our messy, beautiful human experience.
This means our ordinary moments this season - the family meals, the tired mornings, the small acts of love and sacrifice - are infused with holy significance. When we gather around holiday tables with loved ones, we share Jesus's own delight in communal feasting.
The miracle of Christmas isn't just that God came to earth, but that in doing so, God affirmed that our humanity - in all its complexity and imperfection - is worthy of love. May we recognize the sacred in our everyday experiences and find peace in knowing that our human journeys are marked by the divine.
Wishing you and yours a blessed Christmas,
Brent
